The first thing to consider when buying knives is what do you want them for? If you want something that looks pretty, but is useless, then go and get a set of those trendy stainless steel ones with no grip and silly handles. But if you want a knife that works and does the job, then a Kitchen Devil Professional is what you want. It does exactly what it says on the tin (box).

The professional range includes a wide assortment or knives for all purposes, but you only really need a couple, hence this set represents great value. The only thing you may wish to add would be a bread knife (and sharpener).

On first impressions the knives may seem like any other - but they aren't. Firstly the blades are not "just" stainless steel. They are stainless, but also contain Molybdenum, which hardens the steel. (Like cobalt drills, or vanadium in tools). This means the blades are very hard and can keep a very fine edge. Consequently they will be sharper than a typical stainless cheapie.

The handles are lightweight, but large and sturdy offering a fantastic grip. They are secured with three solid brass rivets, even on the tiny paring knives. The finish is excellent with no gaps, officering perfect hygiene. The blades are brushed steel finished and are very thick & sturdy. You will definitely have a job to break these knives. However if you do they are fully guaranteed for 25 years.

n.b. a knife is only as good as its sharpener. I would recommend the purchase of a Kitchen Devil knife sharpener. A few strokes each time you use them will keep them like razors. I have several and they will slice a cereal box in half with a flick of the wrist. And I can actually shave with them!

Do not confuse their classical design with cheaper models; these are truly professional knives, made with special alloy blades and superb handles. Razor sharp, with award wining design. Throw out all those cheap stainless knives in you're kitchen and start as you mean to go on.
